Commonly Asked Preschool Questions

Many families who are searching for the best preschool experience possible share the same concerns and questions.  The following questions and answers may help to answer some of your own questions!

Q: I see that CCS offers two preschool campus locations.  Does each campus offer the same curriculum and program?

A: Both the Coventry and Pleasantview Campus location staff share in our desire to promote the mission and philosophy of Educating for Life!  We work to make sure that we are following the preschool curriculum for each age range.  At most points of the year, if one were to visit each campus, one would see the students learning the same concepts within days of eachother.  Our goal is to present the learning in a fun and stimulating fashion, ensuring the best possible preschool experience.  Both campus locations are in Pottstown, and are approximately a seven minute drive between the two locations.

Q: Of course, all children have their difficult moments, how do Coventry Christian School staff members handle children's behavior?

A: The number one rule at CCS is "The Golden Rule," in other words, treating others the way you would prefer to be treated.  We strive to teach the children to be respectful towards other children as well as adults.  We do use a program and philosophy called "I Can Problem Solve" created by Temple University professer, Myrna Shore.  This method teaches children how to effectively use their words to solve their frustrations.  One would typically find teachers leaning down or kneeling to be close to the children to help them mediate their concerns.  It may be necessary at times to re-direct a child to sit down for a few minutes away from his/her friends so that he/she may collect their thoughts for however many minutes as he/she is old.  While this helps to cool things down, the follow-up conversation afterwards with the teacher and the student will help the student develop an understanding of why we had to sit down, and how we need to resolve the problem.

Q: Does my child need to be using the potty successfully at the time of enrollment?

A:  Coventry Christian School's Preschool Departments believe that together, parents and teachers can partner to encourage toileting procedures at the pace most preferred by the parent for their child.  We offer both scheduled "times to use the potty" as well as make sure children has access to restroom facilities with the needed amount of help as determined by each child's needs.

Q: Why does Coventry Christian Schools offer so many different preschool classes?

A:  We believe that our curriculum has just the right blend of socialization, academic learning and developmentally appropriate play for children at all ages.  We do strive to follow our curriculum, and meet our stated goals and for that reason it is important that we offer a full range of programs to meet the differing attention and focus levels of each age of child.  We work together with the parents to determine most appropriate placement into preschool classes based on parents needed schedule and the child's age.

Q: Does every child in the CCS Pre-Kindergarten class proceed to the CCS Kindergarten?

A: CCS welcomes every family who would like their child to have a quality preschool education to participate regardless of their intent to continue or not continue to our elementary program!  Children who have attended the CCS Pre-Kindergarten will have an excellent preparation for Kindergarten.
