Elementary Profile - Grades K-4CurriculumThe Elementary program is designed to promote spiritual growth, academic excellence and positive social and emotional development. This is accomplished through daily Bible lessons, high academic standards, bi-weekly chapel programs and an emphasis on developing Christian character. Weekly recognitions in chapel provide positive reinforcement for behavior that exemplifies Christ-like actions. The curriculum is academically oriented and emphasizes the development of knowledge and skills in a variety of subjects. BibleThe Bible curriculum consists of daily lessons taken directly from the Bible with evaluations through regular tests and weekly memory verses. Students are encouraged in all activities to apply the Christian principles they learn in Bible class. Science & Social StudiesThese subjects are taught at each grade level. Learning is enhanced through a variety of projects that promote student creativity and application of knowledge and skills. Language ArtsThe Language Arts program is comprehensive; giving students a strong phonics based reading program, grammar, spelling and experience in written expression through reports, creative writing and poetry. MathMath is conducted through creative hands-on activities and multiple techniques to reinforce skills and accommodate different learning styles. The Elementary academic program is enriched with the addition of weekly classes in Art, Computer, Library, Music, Physical Education, Sign Language, and Spanish. The curriculum is enhances through a variety of field trips designed to meet the needs of each grade level. They include such places as The Franklin Institute, Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia Zoo, and The Crayola Factory. Overnight trips begin in fourth grade. Dress CodeThe basic dress code is a collared shirt and solid color khaki-style pants. Jeans are acceptable and girls may wear skirts or dresses. More detailed information is available in the parent/student handbook. Lunch & RecessAll grades have 30 minutes for lunch and 30 minutes for recess. Students bring their lunch and microwaves are available for heat-up lunches. Lunches are also delivered to the school and available for purchase through monthly order forms. Beverages are also available for purchase daily. ChapelChapel is held on Monday mornings and Friday afternoons. Monday chapel consists of singing, a speaker, recognition of class leaders, pledge of allegiance, prayer, and recognition of birthdays for that week. During Friday’s afternoon chapels, all teachers are asked to recognize a student in their class for good behavior or academic success. They receive a “Shining Light Award” certificate. After School ActivitiesThe following activities are offered on a periodic basis to students for a fee: Computer Club, Art Club, Bowling, Book Club, and others. Extended CareBefore and after school care is available for children ages nursery through 12 years. Extended care is open 5 days a week, year round, closing only for major holidays or inclement weather. Hours are 6:00am until 6:00pm at the Coventry campus location. Children participate in various activities including crafts, Computers, singing, story time, games and outside activities. Homework Club is available daily from 3:15-4:00pm. Barn parties, luaus, camp time fun, and other special day events are included in the program. Snacks, donated by parents, are available. Children enjoy spending time with our energetic Extended Care staff. Costs may vary according to your Extended Care agreement. Summer Day CampA nine- to ten-week summer day camp is conducted to offer children 2 through 12 years (held at our Coventry campus location) an enjoyable social experience. Starting the middle of June and ending in August, camp hours are from 9:00am to 3:00pm, with extended care options available from 6:00am to 6:00pm. Given a break from the usual academic rigors, children participate in activities that include: Arts & Crafts, Bible classes, computers, music, field trips, sports, games, one-week Specialty Camps, swimming and swimming lessons.
